Women's History Month

In March we celebrate Women's History Month! Explore resources that honor achievements & amplify women scholars.

Incorporate Women Scholars & Voices

Elevate women's voices this month by actively incorporating female scholars and their research into your course. By highlighting scholars and their work, we empower the next generation of female leaders and thinkers.

  • Highlight contributions of women scholars in your field by including readings, articles, or research from women authors.
  • Invite guest speakers from the academic community to share their expertise and experiences.
  • Acknowledge historical barriers women scholars have faced in your discipline and how they have shaped the field.

Connect Course Content to Women's Contributions to Society

Learn more about women that have impacted society in meaningful ways. By acknowledging the hard-work and amazing knowledge of women, you will create a more engaging and interesting curriculum.

  • Environmental Science: Explore the impact of Rachel Carson, whose book Silent Spring launched the modern environmental movement.
  • Psychology: Highlight the contributions of women psychologists such as Mamie Phipps Clark, whose research on racial identity and self-esteem influenced the Brown v. Board of Education decision.
  • Computer Science: Discuss Ada Lovelace’s foundational role in programming and Grace Hopper’s contributions to computer languages.
  • Civil Engineering: Examine the work of Emily Warren Roebling, who played a crucial role in overseeing the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge, and discuss the contributions of women in infrastructure development.

Encourage Critical Discussions

There are many ways you can promote student voices in the classroom. From small group work to even larger class activities, engage with students and create thoughtful discussions in your classroom.

  • Dedicate a class session to discussing systemic issues related to gender equity and women’s contributions within your field.
  • Use case studies or current events that highlight gender justice, women’s innovation, or social movements.
  • Engage students in small-group discussions or reflection papers on relevant topics.

Below is a list of events. Encourage students (and colleagues) to participate in these community functions. (Extra credit never hurts!)
