Articulating skills for the age of AI

Generative artificial intelligence has accelerated change, forcing us to rethink some aspects of teaching and learning.

Many core skills remain vital, though. Our challenge is to identify and articulate those core skills while recognizing that other skills may no longer be as important as they once were.

We must also evaluate new skills that emerge and decide whether to move those to the core.

This model is intended to help with that process by envisioning skills as overlapping and constantly in flux. It borrows from a model created by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe in Understanding by Design, and a framework proposed by the consulting firm Gartner.
