Call for Center for Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellows

Fall 2024 - Spring 2026

Application deadline May 1, 2024

The Center for Teaching Excellence seeks one or more faculty members to serve two-year terms as a Faculty Fellow. A Fellow’s responsibilities are based on the faculty member’s background, interests, and experiences, as well as CTE’s specific needs.

We are interested in applicants who can help us develop our work in one or more core areas, such as inclusive pedagogies, documenting and evaluating teaching, using assessment and data analytics to improve education, curriculum design and innovation, and interdisciplinary teaching. For the next group of Fellows, we are particularly interested in those who have experience with:

  • Designing and teaching courses aligned with Core Goal 4 (US cultural awareness and global cultural awareness)
  • Designing and teaching first-year or capstone courses
  • Teaching one-on-one and student mentoring
  • Supporting new faculty members

Each Fellow is expected to have responsibilities in specific areas of CTE programming, actively participate in CTE programs (e.g., working groups and discussion sessions, Course Design Institute, Teaching Summit, Student Learning Symposium, and Celebration of Teaching), contribute to the Center's GTA preparation program, and guide individual faculty members through CTE resources for development of their teaching. CTE Faculty Fellows also serve as liaisons to the University at large on matters related to teaching.

The Faculty Fellows program has four key goals:

  1. Enriching CTE's work by drawing on the diverse perspectives and teaching expertise of KU faculty members.
  2. Broadening CTE’s impact within the KU community through the Fellows' sharing of their knowledge and expertise.
  3. Expanding CTE's ability to help instructors and GTAs explore innovative ideas and adopt evidence-based teaching practices.
  4. Bolstering Fellows' professional growth in teaching and leadership.

Qualifications

  • Tenure-track applicants should hold the rank of associate professor or higher; non-tenure-track teaching faculty should have at least five years of employment at KU (or equivalent elsewhere).
  • Experience with reflective and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Success with documenting teaching effectiveness.
  • Participation in CTE long-term programs (faculty seminars, working groups) is a plus.

Expectations and Compensation

A Faculty Fellow is expected to commit four to five hours a week to CTE-related work during a typical semester. That may vary during a given semester, though, depending on the Center's needs and the Fellow's interests. Fellows meet regularly as a group with CTE’s leadership team several times a semester. Most Fellows’ work must be done in person on the Lawrence campus.

As compensation, Faculty Fellows receive $7500 (gross), disbursed in three overload payments of $2500 each in the spring term of each full academic year they serve. In addition, Fellows receive a $1500 travel/professional expense budget each year, preferably to support participation in teaching-related conferences or institutes.

Application process

If you are interested, please submit a curriculum vitae and a letter (two-page limit) that explains your interest in the position and how you believe you could support CTE programs and initiatives. Application letters should include a brief description of why you are interested in the Faculty Fellows program and what qualifications you would bring to the position.

Submit application materials to Judy Eddy at jeddy@ku.edu by May 1, 2024. Brief interviews will be scheduled in early May. Applicants will be notified of the review committee’s decisions by May 30. The start date will be August 15, 2024.

If you have any questions, please contact CTE’s director Andrea Follmer at dea@ku.edu.
